To get kids involved we suggest opening a Coverdell account in the Monetta Young Investor Fund. It has a low minimum investment, a financial literacy component and a free college tuition credit program. The kids can play games / activities and win prizes.
A nice oxygen mask for kids learning basic financial concepts.

Thanks so much for letting me know about this issue. I’m still reeling from the implications of not being able to buy second-hand toys and clothes. The negative effect this will have on charities who depend on second hand children’s goods is both regrettable and avoidable.

Thank you so much for mentioning this to your readers. As a consignment store owner and operator of a thrift to benefit local nonprofits, this is a HUGE issue for us!

We are fortunate that kid’s resale is only a small portion of our business, but there are thousands of stores that are only kid’s resale and or consignment, and they are freaking out! There are no clear guidelines from the government on what exactly they want us to do to ‘comply’ either – even if we knew and could afford, what and how to test stuff!

I LOVE the graphic of SAVE second hand kid’s clothes and toys! May I have permission to use it on my store and thrift web site (with proper attribution of course if it is yours?). As an industry, we have been so blind-sided by this (the retro-activity part was only made late November) we haven’t had time to mount a proper campaign of protest and no one leader in the diverse industry to organize it, sadly.
