I have been thinking a lot about fish recently. More and more doctors and health experts are recommending eating fish as a great way to get protein and other nutrients. While I was pregnant I had been warned about mercury levels in fish. It all seemed so confusing, so I just avoided fish in general.
More recently, there have been many news stories about fish fraud - restaurants selling one fish but actually serving the customer something different. So we as consumers need to be alot more knowledgeable about fish.
I was very excited when I found a fish guide in the March issue of Real Simple magazine. Now we can learn what all the descriptions mean. Even better is the downloadable Healthy Seafood Guide which lets you know how often you can eat different kinds of seafood. Online the guide is a little hard to read since it was designed for printing. So print it and take it along with you when you go to a restaurant or grocery shopping.
Bon Appetit!
