Our nephew just flew in to visit us today. He is 19, so he can take advantage of AirTran’s standby flights for $69. This is a great program AirTran has aimed specifically toward college students. You don’t necessarily have to be in college AirTran Airways discount college travelto qualify, just between the ages of 18-22. You just show up at the counter, show your ID, pay your $69 and get on the standby list. Since you are flying standby you are limited to carry on luggage only. You can not check-in anything.

After the final boarding call, if there is a seat available you get it. So the trick is to choose flights that are not overbooked. You can try to reserve a ticket online to get a feel for seat availibity. If there are several choices available then you should head to the airport, if you can’t find any seats then choose another day or time.(You can’t purchase AirTran U program tickets online, only at the ticket counter at the airport.) If you are flying coast to coast, the ticket prices are slightly higher at $89. For full details visit AirTran Airways AirTran U program info.
